Sept 21

MEGAN MESLOH  /  WORKSHOP  /  NATURAL DYES  /  OUTDOOR WORKSHOP  /  WILD PLANT DYES  /

We’re bringing you outdoors in the Columbia River Gorge for a one-day workshop dedicated to the exploration of foraged natural colors. Starting in the early afternoon we will follow our guide and textile artist, Megan Mesloh, on a nature walk through the breathtaking lands of the Gorge and learn to identify the bountiful natural dye plants that grow in the Northwest landscape. We will discuss the mordant (pre-treatment) process for the fabric, identify and process plants, create dye baths and dye a full swatch card of colors on wool and cotton fiber.

This workshop includes an instructional dye book with fabric swatches from the dye pots, a silk scarf or cotton bandana.

How to get there:

Take I-84 East toward The Dalles. Drive approximately 75 miles, then take Exit 87 toward Dufur/Bend. -> Link to Map

If you are looking to carpool, please email us and we will be arranging a list of fellow carpoolers from Portland to the Gorge and returning post workshop / Address: TBA

Megan Mesloh is a textile artist and educator living in Hood River, Oregon. She has taught craft curriculum for ten years, with a focus on plant foraging, natural dyes, and weaving. She received a BFA in Textiles from Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2014. Through place-based exploration (foraging plants specific to a region, terrain or season) and a deep curiosity for the natural world, Megan has built a relationship with dye plants and natural fibers as a way to re-connect to where things come from and how they are made.
