Carnavál Crown

Mar/21

NATALIA ORTEGA GAMEZ  —   NATALIA ORTEGA GAMEZ —

As part of our learning series, we have flown Natalia Ortega Gámez from the Dominican Republic to Portland, OR to direct this special workshop create wearable headpieces with found materials from Oaxaca, MX and recycled plastics sourced in the Caribbean colmados.

Inspired by the scenes of Dominican carnavál and typical street festivities, these headpieces are meant to be worn for any celebration.  By using the excess of her collections, plastic bags from Dominican colmado purchases, Natalia transaltes her remnants into these special headpieces - communicating with the materiality of her own personal work.

Natalia will guide us through creative and playful ways she produces her crowns and will show you how to push the boundaries of each material.

All materials, tools, beads and a variety of found treasures will be provided. Limited tickets available.
